Simple And Easy Are Not The Same

Do You Deliver ?

Do You Deliver ?

Having just read a great post over at Advertising Made Simple, I found enough inspiration to wite a post myself. Chuck McKay made a lot of sense and I don’t have a lot to add, but I’ll get the thrill of linking to a great post and he’ll get some link love. I’ll also experience some link leak…and that’s a good thing !

Simple means you know how to do it. Done it before. Thousands of times. No problem.

Easy means you aren’t going to have to strain to get it done. No big deal.

What happens between hearing these words and disappointment ?

Lotsa little things. Supply chain breaks down. Hardware failure. Sick employee. Unforeseen circumstances. Yada yada. Blah blah.

Here’s what makes the difference.

You stay late. You skip the soccer match that your 4 year-old grandson is in. You pay some employees to stay late. You put yourself out. You overcome. You deliver. You think smarter and work harder.

( I had a guy cancel on me just last week because his wife said they had to go to watch their 4 year-old grandson play a soccer match. Not the 4 year-old finals, not a grudge match against another nursery league. A weekly match. They haven’t scored all year, because they can’t focus long enough to remember what the heck they’re out there for ! He’s smaller than the ball and can’t run up and down the field without pickin’ his nose, falling down or crying. Sometimes all three. He won’t mind if you meet your commitments, your spoken word. He won’t remember playing by next week. Don’t you guys think four’s a little young for a soccer league ?)

There’s so many things that can happen and they are all bad. You have to make it clear to your team that failure is not an option. Finish at all costs.

Chuck made another statement that I want to finish with.

” My partner, Roy Williams, often asks “ Why do customers not come to your store ? Is it because they don’t know about you ? Is it because they do know about you ? ”

What a tremendous question. What’s your answer ?
