Sales Code of Conduct And The Dragon Emperor?

by Mike Sigers

Dragon Emperor

While listening to my favorite sales-related podcast today, Bryan Neale and Bill Caskey were talking about a personal Code of Conduct for sales people.

The first of the five they gave was Check Your Intent and Bryan para-quoted Ram Charan, author of What The Customer Wants You To Know.

To paraphrase, Ram says, ” You cannot show up looking to make the sale. You have to show up with the intent to help the prospect.

The same theme came out in the new Mummy movie this weekend.

Never thought you’d see a Mummy movie and a B2B podcast tied together, did you ? Me neither.

As the Dragon Emporer is brought back to “life”, General Yang tells him:

I live to serve you, my lord.

Basically, that was good for him, because Jet Li, the Dragon Emperor, tells him:

If you’re lying, you’ll burn !

To put all of that into something we can all use, and believe me, it’s tougher than it sounds, you and I absolutely must go into each and every phone call, presentation, email and/or any form of contact with a client, customer or prospect as General Yang did, with a servant’s heart, even though our life doesn’t depend on it like his did.
