The December edition of Success magazine has “several” great articles, but the one about Rachael Ray grabbed my attention for several reasons.
Love her or hate her, she’s doing what she loves and is getting paid to do it. That’s success.
Let’s look a bit further into the lessons, tips and insights that Rachael brought to us for show and tell today.
Don’t Try To Be Somebody You’re Not
“Decide who you are and don’t try to pretend you’re something other than that.”
Rachael’s simple advice is one of the real keys to happiness and success in life and business.
I’m a salesman, pure and simple. I sell. It’s what I do.
She’s not a chef, she’s a cook, pure and simple. It’s what she does.
She started out just wanting to teach people how to make quick, easy suppers after a hard day at work.
I started out just wanting to pass along the tips and tactics that make selling so easy for me.
Now, she get’s paid to teach people to cook supper and I get paid to teach people to sell.
Neither one of us violated the advice you see quoted above.
Energy, Everyday And Enthusiasm Trump Status Quo
Rachael never planned to be a multimedia star, it just happened.
Culinary critics and purists were put off by her “every-woman” qualities. Everyday people who watch TV, buy books and make advertisers think they’re getting their money’s worth loved her.
She told her fan-vangelists that they could do this and they believed her. They saw themselves doing the cooking. They believed they could cook “stoups” and “sammies” and saw themeselves as they watched her drop stuff and juggle pots, pans and knives, while doing it all in less than 30 minutes … while smiling, giggling and goofin’ around. Optimism rules ! Nobody wants to follow a forlorn leader.
Stories Sell Your Product
Today’s advertising “madmen” think they’re “above” storytelling. It used to be the #1 vehicle for selling a product or service. No, scratch that, it’s still the number one way to sell an idea, a product or service.
I sell face-to-face, everyday of the week. I also happen to sell with stories.
Long before she became a star, Rachael had taken the time to talk to, connect with and tell stories to people. That’s how you find out what they want, what they need and how they expect to get those two things from the places they buy them.
That’s three of at least 23 lesson, tips and nuggets of advice I gleaned while reading the article. Pick up a copy of December’s SUCCESS magazine and head over to their website to read the digital edition of Rachael’s article.

This is excellent, and simple, advice. I’m curious why you think more people don’t follow it? Do we not know who we are? Do we think it doesn’t matter? I’m curious because I’m still smoothing out some edges to find out who I really am.
Hey Phil,
Good to see you around here !
Most people don’t follow any simple advice because they don’t believe anything can really be that simple.
Too many authors and speakers with too many “secrets”, too many buzzwords and too much bad advice have killed the easy way to do anything.
Plain, simple fundamentals are still the surest route to success in sales, in marketing, in basketball and in life.
I love this gal! Her simplicity is a beautiful thing! Her fans (of which I most certainly am one) love the fact that she has the guts to be herself and to stand out in the crowd.
She’s genuine. She can cook. She has a killer smile.
What’s not to love?!
Hello,
I like her and her TV show a lot.
There is always something difference on each show.
And most of all, i like the cooking part, it’s yummy
Thanks for stopping by, Rudy.
