Lying, Buying And Selling More

by Mike Sigers

“It doesn’t really matter that they’re lying, it matters why they’re lying.”

That’s a paraphrase from a trailer running for a new show on Fox.

In the sales and marketing world, we have a similar saying:

“It doesn’t matter what people are buying, it matters why they’re buying.”

If you want to make a decent living, sell what people are buying.

If you want to be wealthy, find out why they’re buying.

I couldn’t agree more. The salesperson who identifies the unique needs and desires of their prospect will be at top. Knowing why a prospect will buy will tell us how to sell to them.

This isn’t manipulative or sleazy, it’s all about meeting the needs of the prospect. That’s the “why” of buying, and the “how” of selling.

Nice post.
