I Am A Tea Snob

Starbuck's In Owensboro, KY

Okay, fine. I admit it.

I like hot tea. No honey, no cream. No sugar.

Just a really flavorful cup of hot tea, as I slowly get away from SO MUCH coffee.

I’m not giving it up, just cutting back.

My local Starbuck’s has allowed me to try several, several tea’s of late.

BTW - My company made the integrally colored concrete blocks for this store and supplied the rest of the masonry materials.

My favorite so far is one from Tazo - Wild Sweet Orange.

It’s really intense and extremely flavorful. Multiply that by 3 or 4 and you may be close to the experience you’ll get from it.

Here’s what the Starbuck’s website says about it:

” Wild Sweet Orange: A full-flavored, juicy infusion of lemongrass, citrus herbs, licorice root and orange essences. Ingredients: Lemongrass, blackberry leaves, citric acid, rose hips, spearmint leaves, natural flavors, orange peel, safflower, hibiscus flowers, rose petals, natural orange essence, ginger root and licorice root. (Caffeine free). (Available only in filterbags). “

Run down and try a cup and let me know what you think.

What’s this have to do with sales, you ask ?

While I was there, the manager told me he could hardly keep it in stock.

I recommended he order more that he’d been ordering.

There. That’s a great sales tip for him.

If you were a real tea snob I’m not sure you’d be drinking something called Tazo Wild Sweet Orange, although I guess it’s a positive that any American likes tea :-) (for the record, I don’t drink coffee, tastes like mud to my pallete)

Try some more traditional blends, but head premium, some of the better Earl Greys and English Breakfasts are superb, literally poetry in your mouth. I’m not sure about cream, honey or sugar, but a small dash of low fat milk (preferably with little flavour) never goes astray, although I’ll be crucified by tea purists for saying so :-) and one of these days I’ll share my story of trying to order a white tea in Canada…I would have had an easier time in India with the order :-)

    Hey Duncan,

I’m quite sure “I’m not a REAL tea snob”, but using that as a headline would have sucked. Then again …

I’ve had several Earl Grey’s, as we get some EG pods with our Tassimo coffee maker. The Breakfast blend was great.

The better the tea, the better the tea tastes. Imagine that.

Make sure and share the story soon … while the tea’s still hot !

I love tea too. Great lesson in marketing above- do you think he’ll listen? There is only so much you can do sometimes, no? Great stuff.

    Nope, I don’t think he’ll listen to a customer.

Most middle-level managers like that usually “think” they’re pretty swift.

Most are not usually much better than minimum wage employees, as far as actual value to the company in relationship to their pay.

    Sorry. Sad but true.

I remember going for Chai tea at that little coffee shop on Pensacola Beach a few January’s ago. Nice memories!

If you want Miss Joi to brew you up some fabulous tea, check out Old Florida Spice Traders (http://oldflaspicetraders.com). Yummy! My favorites so far are Blossoms & Berries and African Nectar. They are hand mixed blends and are heavenly.

Found them on a day trip to St. Augustine. Hey…rather than ordering, y’all just come down and meet us in St. Augustine and I’ll take you there personally!

You know Joi would love to visit St. Augustine, since it’s her first or second fave spot in FLA.

I’m in Huntsville right now playing golf and she’s back there slaving away.

Thanks for the tea tips … I call her right now.
