Stress is not very fun.

Stress needs to be managed and relieved.

If you have stressful days, like I do, I’ve found a simple, easy and fast way to get rid of stress.

It really work and it’s only 7 steps.

1- Picture yourself near a stream.

2- Listen to the birds chirping softly in the mountain air.

3- Nobody else knows this is your secret place.

4- You’re in total seclusion from that place called “the world”.

5- The soothing sound of the water trickling over the rocks fills the air with serenity, peace and love.

6- The water is as clear as, well, … water.

7- And in the water you can picture the face of the asshole that pissed you off that you’d love to throw in that stream!

See, you’re smiling and a wee bit happier already

Friends Are The Key To A Successful Life

Want to sell more ? You need friends.

Want more links to your blog ? You need friends.

Want a better job ? You need friends.

Want to feel satisfied with your life ? You need friends.

I know of a guy who’s barely over 40 and heads a successful organization. Talented, fun, smart, etc., started with nothing.

His real genius seems to be in acquiring friends….everywhere. It’s not an accident that he can pick up a phone and call people in multiple states and get a favor. He counts his friends by the hundreds, not tens.

Not all of these friends are what you and I would classify as important. There are friends in high places and there are friends in low places. There are good friends, loyal friends, pretty friends, ugly friends, friends that wear suits, friends that wear jeans, friends that wear whatever they can afford, friends that wear silk, etc.

How Does He Do It ?

He recently outlined his system for someone and I’m going to outline it for you …right here, right now.

Pay attention, try it for one week, one month, whatever you feel like, but please come back and let me know how it worked for you.

Day One – Write a letter, email or note to someone you haven’t written in a long time. No phone calls, that’s later. It’s gotta be handwritten.

Day Two – Smile more. Be conscious of the expression on your face for the whole day. If this doesn’t work immediately in getting someone to speak to you or smile back, you need to take a smiling class, ’cause you apparently aren’t very good at it.

Day Three – Say something really kind about someone you know. Want to accelerate the process ? Say something nice about 5 or 10 people.

Day Four – Call up someone you’ve just met and would like to know better. Invite them to lunch and go to their favorite restaurant.

Day Five – Find someone who is lonesome or neglected. Invite them to go somewhere with you. Yes, this one’s tough, but it’s worth it.

Day Six – Encourage someone to talk about himself/herself. Draw out something they’ve never told you about. Pay attention to them as they talk.

Day Seven – Talk to a stranger during the day. Stop walking. Really listen when you ask how they’re doing. Answer with a smile.

If you like the results after one week….Lather, Rinse and Repeat !

I’ve updated and edited this post after 1 1/2 years because it’s till effective and there are new readers who’ve never seen it.

Please comment below and get the party started again!

If you never face reality, you’ll never be able to change the way you sell, lead, manage or act.

The simple act of facing reality gets you 50% of the way to actually making a change.

Without change, you’ll never grow.

Without growth, you become obsolete, you become boring, you become easy to dismiss, unimportant, forgettable, etc.

When you attain any of those plateaus, you’re finis, as they say in the hill country of Kentucky.

I’ve already said that just facing reality gets you 50% of the way to actually making a change, so…

How Do We Get Over The Hump of Change

Think back to your childhood’s summer days on a playground.

It’s warm, a bit humid, but you don’t want to be inside.

You’re on the local elementary school playground and it’s a few minutes after 10 in the morning.

Little Paulie wants you to play on the teeter totter, or seesaw in some places, with him.

You and Little Paulie both weigh exactly 65 lbs.

You sit parallel with the ground, motionless, but you want to teeter and totter.

Too bad one of you didn’t eat more chocolate frosted sugar bombs for breakfast, because if either one of you outweighed the other by a single ounce, you’d be able to ease down far enough for your feet to touch the ground and then you could push yourself up and Little Paulie would drop down low enough for his little feet to touch Mother Earth and he could push off and then your little feet would touch and you could push and …

you’d be teeter tottering! Woohoo! Success!

One Single Ounce

One single ounce can get you over the hump and you can make a change and have fun in your life as a salesman, as a leader, as a manager, as a person, etc.

One single ounce.

You can do that, can’t you?

I thought so

Now go enjoy teetering and tottering your way thru life.

A special thanks goes out to the highest ranking teeter totter salespeople on the internet for that fantastic photo.

Ice storms suck.

Simply suck.

My area, western Kentucky, was devastated by a winter storm that started Monday, January 26th and lasted thru Wednesday, January 28th.

Several inches of ice, followed by several inches of snow.

Power lines down, power poles down, trees down, no electricity, no heat, no cellphones, no landlines, etc.

Many tens of thousands, including me, have no electricity, no heat, no water, etc. in their homes and businesses.

My family and I are holed up in the office I use in my offline career.

This is day 5 and we’re not expecting to have heat and electicity for up to three weeks at our house.

We feel fortunate to have a place to go with hot water and electricity, even if the floors are very hard to sleep on here at the office. We have an electric skillet and a griddle. No showers or tubs.

There are over 125 utility crew workers here in my hometown from other states. We very much appreciate their willingness to leave their families to come and help our families.

The local utility companies, Owensboro Municipal Utilities, Kenergy ( the one I have service with ), Kentucky Utilities and others are working night and day, in very brutal conditions, to restore power, so we can start the months it will take to clean up the downed trees, power lines and over 2000 power poles.

Bear with me while we dig out and I’ll try to find time to keep dishing out simplenomics.

If you have a warm bed to tuck your children into tonite, hug ‘em and say a prayer for us.

Peace.

EDIT: 7:30 PM CST Saturday – After a day of looking everywhere, I’ve gathered a propane heater, a kerosene heater and an 8000 watt generator, so we can now go back to our house and rough it there, which will be much, much better.

Lost all the food in the freezer and fridge, but that’s a small price to pay.

I have two different ISP’s at home, LiquidGrid.com is down and Owensboro Municipal Utilities is up and running, so I can download my emails and keep you updated.

Gotta try to go out in the dark and cold to find more extension cords.

More tomorrow.

EDIT: Tuesday, February 3rd – The great people at Kenergy have been able to restore our electricity and we’re feeling blessed !
